When considering the role of the musicians give yourself as much flexibility as
possible. To save money and create a keener interest, think beyond the usual
boxes. In other words, ask your Wedding Consultant or music agent about the
possibility of mixing styles of presentation. Here's a couple of examples:
Bagpipes, are popular here in the Boston region, but you may not want to have a
ceremony and reception consisting of only Bagpipes. That can be tedious even
with the best of Bagpipe artists.
Another popular instrument in our area is the harp. Professional harpists are
quite versatile in the styles and tempos of music. It's a lovely instrument,
especially for the ceremony. And, you might want to keep that person around an
extra hour or so to play along with your DJ or other musicians for part of the
reception or dinner.
A competent DJ or Band will be able to accompany a broad array of instruments,
like a classical guitarist, accordion player, brass horns or a flutist. And what
an interesting mix of musical talents you have arranged for your guests! Since
musicians are usually hired in blocks of time, this might be the best way to get
the most for your money.
The possibilities of combinations are vast and varied. If the accordion is a
favorite family instrument, then ask your DJ or Band Leader about the
possibility of combining that instrument with their own repertoire. Both can
play a mixture of duets as well as individual pieces separately; they can also
switch hit while one is taking a break. Such consideration will add to the
liveliness of your entertainment and get you more for your money. Combining
music presentation may require some rehearsal time together, but not
necessarily, especially if the musicians know one another or have worked
together. Sound advice and direction can be obtained from your Wedding
Consultant or Music Agent.
